Power Play (D.C. Stars #2) by Chelsea Curto

“Do you do this a lot? Pretend like your shit isn’t as important as other people’s shit “

Piper and Liam have undeniable chemistry—it’s electric. From the first page, the story grabs you and doesn’t let go. The plot and characters are so immersive that you forget the familiar tropes and just get swept along. You feel every emotion right along with Piper and Liam, and it’s a journey worth savoring.

By the time Piper and Liam wake up in that Vegas hotel room, it’s easy to have forgotten that one of the main tropes here is an accidental marriage—yes, the classic “marriage of convenience” trope, or in this case, the “we got drunk and woke up married in Vegas” scenario. But it all unfolds so naturally and seamlessly that it just feels right.

And can we talk about Liam’s loyalty to Piper? When he wouldn’t give anyone an interview except her? That speaks volumes about his trust and admiration for her. When he absolutely blasts her ex-boss, Charlie, it’s one of those priceless moments where you realize Liam is all in.

“I’d be very careful what you say next,” he tells him slowly, giving Charlie no room to misinterpret. “That’s my wife you’re talking about.”

It’s the moment where Maverick, their friend, stands there stunned, processing the news. And the fact that Maverick even though still processing the news, threw a punch at Charlie for saying shitty things about Piper. And then there’s Hudson, who sees the whole dynamic between them long before they’re willing to admit it to themselves. Hudson’s character is perfect, and I can’t wait to see what’s in store in his story!

Liam’s relationship with his sister, Alana, is so heartwarming. The way he can be vulnerable with her, admitting the truth about his “fake relationship,” shows the strength of their bond. And Alana? She sees right through them.

"I saw the way she looked at you last night." Lani's smile turns softer. More reverent as she rests her head on my shoulder. "It's exactly how you look at l her. Like she's

the only one in the world."

And the number of times Liam calls Piper “my wife”—it makes you giggle right along with her. Every time, it’s like a little reminder of how invested he is, even if he won’t admit it.

When he finally confesses his feelings, it’s perfect. The proposal he planned, based on everything she’d ever wanted, is a moment to remember.
