"Love Unwritten" is such an adorable book! It nails all the right tropes perfectly:
- Single Dad x Nanny
- Small Town Romance
- Billionaire Romance
- High School Crush
- Slow Burn
The story also tackles some heavy topics like past self-harm, trust and abandonment issues, and assault, but it's done in a really thoughtful way.
One of the most heartwarming parts for me is how Ellie keeps track of Rafael’s smiles—it’s so sweet! And Rafael hand-painting toys for his son? Absolutely wholesome. He’s really trying his best to be a good dad, even though his personal struggles get in the way sometimes. Then there’s Nico, Rafael’s son, who is wise beyond his years but still very much a kid. When Nico admits that he heard his dad crying, it was such a heartbreaking moment. It had me putting the book down to just feel that for a minute.
But it’s not all heavy! There are so many cute moments that made me giggle and blush. I especially loved the scene where Ellie gets a little jealous because they haven’t announced their relationship yet—it was adorable. The story kept me hooked from the start, but there were moments where it felt a little repetitive, and I found myself wishing it would move a bit faster. It's definitely a slow burn, and while that works for the buildup, I was ready for things to speed up!
At times, it feels like a lot is happening all at once, and the emotional weight of the story can be a bit overwhelming. I appreciate the focus on the characters’ growth and how they slowly find themselves, but it did get a little draining here and there. Still, the found-family vibe and small-town connections add so much warmth and heart to the story, which I absolutely loved.
Overall, it was a pretty long read, but still enjoyable! While I wasn’t completely invested the whole time, I can definitely see it resonating more with other readers. Hopefully, this review gives a little insight and helps someone decide if this book is for them!
