This book has a pro-athlete, millionaire MMC, and an FMC who’s his best friend and the only woman he's ever actually wanted. So yeah, I was all in for Brooks.

Sara’s story? Starts off messy. She’s the victim, but as usual, society loves blaming women for men’s trash behavior. And oh boy, the lying and cheating (NOT between the MCs, don’t worry) are a thing here.

So, Sara’s dating the team’s coach—who also happens to be Brooks’ uncle. He swears he’s been divorced for years and wants to keep things hush-hush to “protect her job” (since she also works for the team). Sketchy much? She starts backing off before finding out the truth, but when she learns he’s still very much married, she’s horrified and wants nothing to do with him. The catch? They still have to work together.

Enter Brooks. The way he never doubts Sara, even when it’d be so easy to assume the worst? That’s soulmate behavior, and I devoured it.

Brooks is an NHL goalie for the Boston Bolts, comes from obscene money, and has a squad of brothers + a found family in his teammates. But something’s always been missing—until Sara. She joins the team as the new PR rep, and they become best friends, even though she’s taken (gross). Brooks sticks around anyway, waiting on the sidelines. But when Sara’s boyfriend’s lies come crashing down and her career is suddenly on the line, Brooks comes up with a revenge plan. And oh look—turns out it’s also the perfect excuse to finally make her his. Tragic, really.

This was my first read by Brittanee, and her writing? Chef’s kiss. I skipped book one because the ex’s dad trope isn’t my thing (respectfully, no), but this worked perfectly as a standalone. Brooks and Sara’s banter? Elite. The team’s group chat? Had me cackling. Lennox? The bestie we all need. Aiden and War? Absolute scene-stealers. And let’s just say I will neverlook at Lisa Frank products the same way again. 🎨🤣
